185 mph sustained winds with gusts of 220 mph as of the latest report ... but looks like they predict it will weaken before it makes landfall in the US ... still a very nasty storm however.

Thoughts and prayers for all who eventually end up in its path.

I need to watch this closely. I am from SW Florida. I am currently in northern Georgia on vacation till Monday night. I may need to go home early to get the shutters on the house. My two sons are in the same town and they say they will put them up. It's a toss up. Go home to be in the storm or stay here out of harms way. I will wait till Thursday I think to make the final decision. Hope for the best.

Don't go down there. Southern Florida is under a mandatory evacuation order.

Will it be stronger then the Labor Day Hurricane of 1935 when it hits? Wind speeds where 185 mph on that one and I think that's the strongest on record.

According to the NWS, Irma is the strongest storm ever in the Atlantic (not counting those that reached the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico). And it's not far off from the all-time record hurricane wind speed of 190 mph.

We're riding it out here in North Fla. (Outside Gainesville)

I was in South Florida - Miami/Homestead area - right after Andrew went through ... the devastation was unbelievable, seeing it up close and in-person.

No amount of money could get me to hang for Irma.

EDDIE... Sadly, it seems that predicting the path of a hurricane is just about impossible. Or what it will do once it hits land. Kind of like predicting the weather more then a week out.

Ah hem! You mean predicting women........
