Huskee Woodsplitter Hydraulic Oil Change Frequency?

I think the Napa 1553 that Huskee listed is a 30 micron filter.
Maybe I should of got a 1551 or 1552 which are 10 and 20 micron, respectively.
Oh well, we’ll see if I use them in another decade.

think you're just fine w/a 20-30 micron filter. although tsc (in my area) no longer carries the huskee line, they have the original 25 micron spec filter for huskee.

as far as the op's question, think a filter only replacement every 200-300 hrs (probably more) would be in order assuming the correct hyd oil is used to top off w/each change. think it's mainly a moisture/ condensation issue for most homeowners, probably commercial too.

in fact between filter changes (when cold) one could just back off the existing filter w/o removing it & purge any settled moisture or contaminants each season say a qt or so of fluid. just a thought.

By cooler temps, do you mean below 32?
The only oil spec mentioned in my manual
Is SAE 20.
.

Not below freezing, we don’t get much of that in our marine climate. Typically in the upper 30s and lower 40s is when I do firewood.

I bought my MTD splitter from Lowes and they had 5 gallon buckets of some generic AW-32 hydraulic oil that I used. Back then the pump was made by just one company (I think they had a patent). Now everyone seams to be making them (or just one Chinese company selling to everyone) but they are all basically the same so the oil shouldn't make a difference between brands. I've run my splitter in weather down near zero. Once it gets below 50 though I let things warm up before using it, longer warmup for colder temps. I usually will cycle the ram once or twice to get the cold fluid out of the cylinder. I just change the filter once every 10 years or so and keep the fluid topped off. I don't think I would spend too much time or money buying fancy oil since it doesn't get that hot so the only fear is moisture getting into the oil but even that hasn't been an issue for me. The only issue I've had is the plastic spider between the lovejoy couplers degrades. I replace that usually every 5 years just because it's easy and cheap vs shearing off the lovejoy connectors.

The pump is pumping the full flow rather you're cycling it or not. I'm not sure how much difference warming it up would make. I have to babysit the choke on my splitter for a minute or so in cold weather. Once the engine warms up enough not to die under load I put it to work.
