Husqvarna 455 Rancher Chainsaw

[Husqvarna does now offer this model with a 24 inch bar (though they've yet to update their website or printed documentation to refelect this). They recommend the HT280-84 H46-84 bar and chain upgrade or the Oregon 73LP 84 chain and 240RNDK095 bar. Husqvarna did however caution me that this was the longest bar this saw will use so I wouldn't advise going for the 27, lol, but it is definately ok to use the 24 inch bar with this model. So now I'm going to go out and purchase this bar for this motor and give it a try, gladly.

I'm not sure how you felt you "flogged" me since nothing I said "to you" was incorrect. But ok, whatever.

Yes that is true but conversely speaking or applying I can stall either of my chainsaws when they are equipped with short bars.

So in that context a heavy handed fellow is just plain heavy handed and someone with a lighter touch just has a lighter touch!

Would this equate to operator competence or experience?

This is true, but I guess my point is that its an easy way to damage the saw, especially since most of the people who will be trying to put to long of a bar on for "occasional" use won't be pros and know when they are pushing the saw too hard. You can do it, but if you break the saw don't be surprised.

Its kind of like way overloading your tractor or pickup, you can do it, but you also might wind up with a broken tractor or pickup and you shouldn't be upset if you do.

Goodness gracious fellas, I thought I was ****. We are talking about running chain saws here. This is why you buy a good saw. They can handle it. If you ever burn up a well maintained, quality brand chain saw with the proper fuel mix and bar oil you must have special destructive talent. I mean yes if you put a bar on that is rediculously longer than the manufactures recommendations the saw will cut lousy and beat you and itself up. I have two huskys with MANY hours on them. One 51 with a 20'' bar (husky says 18'' max) and full chisel chain and one 372 with a 32'' bar (husky says 24'' max) and full skip chain. They both flat rip through the wood all day long with no complaints. Keep them well maintained, turn the chain oiler up all the way, keep the bar straight and the chain sharp, and let em rip.........Hutch

I bough a 455 after using my father's for years. They both have great power and incredible reliability, but I have one complaint. Unlike other Huskies I've operated, these both start hard.

My 455 has a 20 inch bar, non-anti kickback chain and I've had it buried in a 36 in maple, cut in 24 inch lengths and it just tears through the wood. In fact it feels like it could easily power a larger bar and chain.

When cold my Husky 365 and 55 are also very hard to start. When warm all is good. I have noticed that the 55 seems to be very economical on fuel.

Some time ago D7E posted on starting a Husky saw. Mine react just as the one he was describing did!
