Husq 555 won't start. Has autotune system. Dealer says computer shows "air leak, not worth fixing" If I replace carb with a new one with module, will that fix it?

It depends on the location of the air leak. If it's the gasket between the engine halves it will take an overhaul. That's probably affordable if you do it but not to pay for shop time.

A new carb won’t fix an air leak assuming the dealer is talking about a crankcase air leak it requires a full tear down to fix usually. I don’t know how the 555 is built but depending how n that it could be a crankcase gasket leak between the case half’s or crank seals or base gasket on the head. If you’re mechanically inclined it’s not a terrible job, just takes time to take apart.

Most dealers make more money on service than they do on selling new stuff. Sounds like this dealer was telling him the right thing, some things aren’t worth fixing if you’re paying someone to do it. To do a full tear down and seal replacement would cost a lot for labor.Why I hate todays dealers and their techs. Most wont fix.
They just want to sell you a new saw.
I had a local dealer tell a guy same thing. Just depends on the dealer. Some dont know how to really work on saws anymore. Plus some dealers want 80-120 a hr.
Being he knew me he brought me saw to look at. I fixed his saw for 75 bucks total cost.

It can be a daunting task at first but I bet you can fix it yourself.
Exactly how I learned many years ago.
Estimate was more then saw cost to fix. But it was using a new p+c
I fixed it for less then 15 bucks. Cleaning up cylinder and piston. New ring and gasket.
Friend still uses that saw today. Got to be over 25 years now.
They aint got to be perfect looking. I tested just how bad of a piston I could go on a 353. Ran amazing for 2 years and still running great. Just looked horrible inside on tear down.

What's the vintage of this?
Is this a 555xp?
Does this have a de-comp valve? Older units might have had them: this was the case with the 562xp, which the 550xp is a down-rated version of.
Ensure that the spark plug isn't loose.
Pull off the muffler and look into the exhaust port. If the piston appears to be roughed up then you're going to, at a minimum, need a new top end.
I had two 562xp saws with issues and BOTH tested fine for crank sealing: do a search for how to test crank cases; I'd never done it before until I went to investigate and repair these saws.
Even with a tone of use I've never had an autotune-related issue. Yes, they do/can happen but too many people blame this system rather than maintaining and operating the saws correctly. That's the trouble with really efficient systems like this is that they run very optimized and they can adjust themselves to the point of their own detriment.
