Hi,

Has anyone had experience with the new Husqvarna HUV 4421D? We casually looked at one at a dealer yesterday, but did not have time for a test drive. What is the opinion about having the Kubota diesel engine directly under the riders' bench? Are heat and noise noticeable? From what I've seen, the HUV 4421D has some first-rate features and has generally good reviews from professional UTV evaluators. We are considering replacing our Gator HPX diesel with the HUV diesel. In my opinion, the HUV has better all-around features, plus we are wary of the notorious "popping" noise in the Deere's front differential. What do you all think?

I am fairly certain the HUV is made by the Bobcat/Clubcar company and shares a lot with the Bobcat and Clubcar versions (including the Kubota engine and aluminum frame.

I am planning to look at one but am nervous about the seat width as I want to have room for my daughter as well as my father.

Hey Robert,

You are right. The Husqvarna HUV, Club Car XRT, and Bobcat 2200 and 2300 are the same platform, all built by Ingersoll Rand. The seat width issue did come up in one online review, but I didn't notice it being too narrow when I briefly sat on one yesterday. But if you plan to fit three people on the bench (you, daughter, father), it may be tight. I have yet to see one with the optional bucket seats. I like the buckets on my HPX, but I have nothing against a comfortable bench seat. I really like the Husqvarna's stance--it sits the driver up higher than on the HPX but is 9 inches longer and 6.5 inches taller.

I remember a past post in which you were gathering information for a UV purchase. Have you decided on a particular brand?

Not yet, I was going to demo machines this fall but I decided to fall off a roof instead and broke my back. So now I am out of commision till mid April when I hope to demo machines then.

When I first saw the HUV I fell in love with it because of its looks and stance. I also liked the orange color for visibilty while on the road. I can't remember the specs off hand but the HUV's bench seat is considerably narrower then the other bench seats on the market. I am not sure why they made it so narrow and it looks like it only has two seat belts like a two seater would.

I believe its about 50 inches wide. That would make it about 10 inch's narrower than an XUV or an RTV.
On the plus side, 50 inches would allow you to ride on many atv trails where the wider vehicles aren't allowed.
It would also fit in the bed of a full size truck. :)

Skip, do you have the specs on it? I thought it was the same size roughly as the rest of the UTV's on the market but if you look at it they keep stepping in until the seat is narrow. The fenders stick out further then the body and that sticks out considerably further then the seat edge. It looks like they kept narrowing it up till it was a two seater:(

Amazing how many new UTV's there are popping up. Used to be either you got a mule or a gator, who knows what all is out there now! Competition is a good thing.

The UTV market is crazy now with so many nice looking machines out there. All of them have something that is better then the rest so there really is not any one perfect machine. You just keep looking till you find what works best for your use. I keep finding more and more UTV's out there which makes my decision that much harder (but it is a good problem I guess).

I remember when I was younger and the Gators were still fairly new. I was looking at the 4x6 gator at one of the Sportsman shows we were set up at and there was nothing even close to that machine. Everyone else had ATV's but the gator with its 6 wheels and width was like a tank when compared to the ATV's at the time. Of course the $7k price tag was a little scary to me at the time. Now I just want to find one in the $10k range:rolleyes:

Husqvarna HUV. Not much info on the husky site.
It looks really good.
Husqvarna made some killer bikes.
Paired with the Kubota diesel, should make for a reliable machine..

When at the Kubota/New Holland dealer yesterday he told me New Holland is in the final stages of building a UTV as well. He feels it will be very similar to the RTV.

That is good to hear, sadly I am not very happy with my local NH dealer right now though:(

If it is the same frame as the Bobcat 2300 then it is 58 inches wide putting it in the same category as the rest of the bigger UTV's. They just made the seat smaller for some reason:confused:

The HUV with the Kubota engine is definetly a great choice. With the engine under the seat, it helps shield the natural diesel noise level. Its actually quieter that the Kubota RTV, which has a lot to be desired in tough off-roading. With the engine under the seat and low in the frame, this provides a great center of gravity for amazing balance in severe off-roading.

This machine is an absolute workhorse, with off-roading capabilites that you won't believe. With the all :D wheel drive and front and rear lockers on the differentials, just point it and hit the throttle.

I have had a couple of hundred hours in the seat of this machine and its basically unbelieveable.

Many of the reviews say the Husqvarna HUV is the best one so I tried to find a dealer. Ha, ha, ha!!! Closest one (only one) was about 40 miles away and had none to demo. Said they would be glad to order one for me. ;)

I believe this is a ez-go machine, compare specs and I think you will find it is similar. It is definitely not a clubcar/IR/bobcat.

The Husqvarna website doesn't list very many specs but the ones they do list made it seem like a IR product. Aluminum frame, Kubota diesel option, front and rear automatic locking differentials, same size cargo box, both have the same Total Vehicle Capacity of 1200 pounds and the same box capacity of 800 pounds as well as a few other things but the most striking thing is the fact the HUV has the same dash as the Bobcat 2200.

Joe, I am curious why you feel so strongly this is not an IR product?

Joe,

Admittedly, sometimes specs posted on different brand websites do not concur to the exact fraction of an inch, but I believe Robert is correct to say that the HUV is an IR product and shares the same features as the Bobcat 2200 and Club Car XRT 1550. We are talking about the Husqvarna HUV 4421D, not to be confused with some of Husqvarna's other golf-cart-like UVs. The only difference among the machines is the grille/front end, like a GMC vs. Chevy. I should have clarified that I am asking about the HUV 4421D because all of Husqvarna's other UVs are called HUVs as well (i.e. HUV 4210G, HUV 4213G, etc.). I am not sure who manufactures the smaller HUVs for Husqvarna, but I am positive the HUV 4421 series is an IR product. The link below is for the Club Car XRT 1550. Both Bobcat and Club Car use the same IntelliTrak trademark name on the 4x4 drive train.

Hello all,

We ended up purchasing a Husqvarna HUV 4421D in February. We have a superb dealer located a few miles away in Oakboro, NC (www.oakborotractor.com). Joel Thomas set us up with a hunter green unit. It is decked out identically to a DXP (nerf bars, skids pans, mud tires, transmission breather, etc) but for about $1,000 less. It also has turn signals, hazard lights, brake lights, horn, fold-down windshield, and canopy. The Deere HPX Gator was a good machine, but honestly the HUV is better. Shifting is straight-forward on the dash, no need for high and low range because the CVT automatically compensates for it. The Kubota runs smoothly (for a 3 cylinder diesel) and is a *little* quieter than the Yanmar. However, we've got the plastic canopy, so the engine noise reverberates some. The HUV has automatic 4WD and front and rear diff. lock engagement. I tried to get it stuck traversing some deep ditches sideways and perpendicular, but it always engaged and pulled through without a sweat. One thing I did like about the HPX a little better was the two hydraulic cylinder bed dump. The HUV has the electric screw single cylinder, like the older Gators have. But so far, it's worked flawlessly. While the HPX ride was a major improvement over the 1st generation Gators, the HUV rides noticably better than the HPX, even with similar suspension systems. There's plenty of leg room and more ground clearance. Two more pluses for the HUV: an easy "slam shut" tailgate (no rattles either) and standard 2" receiver hitch. I can switch the same hitch from my truck to the HUV if I need to move the utility trailer around the yard.

I am not trying to denigrate the HPX, because is was a huge improvement and was generally a good machine. I have not had any experience with the new XUVs, either, but I am well satisfied with the ruggedness and thought that has gone into the Husqvarna HUV (built by ClubCar), especially for the price with all our options: $10,900.

Matthew
