Hello all,
We ended up purchasing a Husqvarna HUV 4421D in February. We have a superb dealer located a few miles away in Oakboro, NC (
www.oakborotractor.com). Joel Thomas set us up with a hunter green unit. It is decked out identically to a DXP (nerf bars, skids pans, mud tires, transmission breather, etc) but for about $1,000 less. It also has turn signals, hazard lights, brake lights, horn, fold-down windshield, and canopy. The Deere HPX Gator was a good machine, but honestly the HUV is better. Shifting is straight-forward on the dash, no need for high and low range because the CVT automatically compensates for it. The Kubota runs smoothly (for a 3 cylinder diesel) and is a *little* quieter than the Yanmar. However, we've got the plastic canopy, so the engine noise reverberates some. The HUV has automatic 4WD and front and rear diff. lock engagement. I tried to get it stuck traversing some deep ditches sideways and perpendicular, but it always engaged and pulled through without a sweat. One thing I did like about the HPX a little better was the two hydraulic cylinder bed dump. The HUV has the electric screw single cylinder, like the older Gators have. But so far, it's worked flawlessly. While the HPX ride was a major improvement over the 1st generation Gators, the HUV rides noticably better than the HPX, even with similar suspension systems. There's plenty of leg room and more ground clearance. Two more pluses for the HUV: an easy "slam shut" tailgate (no rattles either) and standard 2" receiver hitch. I can switch the same hitch from my truck to the HUV if I need to move the utility trailer around the yard.
I am not trying to denigrate the HPX, because is was a huge improvement and was generally a good machine. I have not had any experience with the new XUVs, either, but I am well satisfied with the ruggedness and thought that has gone into the Husqvarna HUV (built by ClubCar), especially for the price with all our options: $10,900.
