My seat of the pants experiments when I first got mine disagree with him. I suppose there are some variables i.e. a persons weight.

I went with the SD mainly for the air filtration system because I now in some extremely dusty/ sandy conditions...the only difference in the FS vs. the FX engines is the air filtration system.. they're both commercial engines..really not any difference in the two mowers..and ofcourse the extra warranty which is really a lot of what your paying for..you won't be disappointed with either mower

I would agree with you, that mechanic was full of BS. No way any vehicle is going to ride smoother with higher air pressure in the tires. I think I would look for another mechanic if that is his knowledge of mowers.
