DYT 4000 is the model. Comes with a 48" deck. Deck is 10 gauge, surprising because most other Craftsmans including some 5000 series come with 12 gauge or less decks. Deck is also about 3/4" deeper than most others, gives more clearance to mow without clogging. Have clogged mine only one time, (grass was way too wet and I knew better.) The 25 hp Kohler is no fuel miser, probably 1 to 1 1/2 gallons per hour, but what matters to me is that it will not bog down even in the heaviest mowing conditions. The belts will slip before the motor stalls if overloaded. Blades are good and thick (should be at about $50.00 per set of 3). I'm at 70 hrs. on my original set, expect about 70 more till replacement.

Per the Sears web page www.sears.com, you can find the tractors as follows:

27324 DYT 4000, 25 HP Kohler $2,399 18" turn radius
27602 GT 5000, 25 HP Kohler $2,599 30" turn radius
27528 DGT 6000 27 HP Kohler $2,999 30" turn radius

These are 2003 year end clearance prices. The DGT 6000 lists at $3,999, probably too much.

DYT 4000 holds 4 gallons, the others 5 gallons. GT 5000 and DGT 6000 have extra heavy duty trans with 1" axle and do not have step through frames. DGT 6000 has cruise control

They are all Automatics, all have the 48" 10 gauge deck with 4 gauge wheels. per the Craftsman brochure, only the DYT 4000 has greasable mandrels and a nose roller.

Both 25 and 27 HP Kohler Pro engines are 725 cc. I couldn't tell where the extra 2 HP comes from. The Kohler Web site is:

www.KOHLERENGINES.COM

Now you know more than you ever wanted to. Oh yeah, they are all RED. Hope this helps.

I checked the Electrolux site and could only find Poulan, Weedeater and Husqvarna.
Could you provide the link please?
Just something to add, if you are talking in the $2500 range, have you looked at John Deere?

To be honest, no I haven't . Some how i've gotten the impression that deere's are some what expensive . as in 3k and up . I am just looking for a decent (read Cheap /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif ) reliable mower . I've got a relatively small lawn . In fact a 48" deck is pushing it as some of the areas I mow are tight .
I just want a machine that requires the usaul maintenance and care . This time around it'll be a hydro unit .
I actually messed up when I gave my son in law and daughter my Honda walk behind mower . never a problem at all . But they're both in the AF,starting out ,and don't have two nickels to rub together /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif And I can remember those days ,as both the wife and I served 20+ years .
That, and just buying an L 3130 doesn't leave a lot in the cookie jar for a new lawn mower /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif All the best, John

If I remember right, they start at $1400.
Might be worth stopping and looking.
Resale will be better than a Sears.

Hambone , Thanks for the response . While resale value isn't a priority, value is . So I guess I owe it to myself to check out the JD machine . John
