Hyd. Toplink chattering?

I had the same problem with the CC Toplink on my L3430. It also would not move at times until I disconnected and reconnect the hydraulic lines.

What fixed it was installing restricters to the hoses. I used 1/2" swivel restricting fittings from TSC just before the quick connects. No it always works good with no chatter. Also slowed down the motion which helps me position easer.

It sounds like a groan with a rough edge. The boxblade metal is probably vibrating at some harmonic of a step function to give it this character, but there's definitely a step function in there. Without resorting to a spectrum analyzer, I'd guess there's a low frequency step occurring at about a 20 to 30 cps. rate....but that's just an uneducated guess. I seem to recall, at at least one point, seeing very faint rings on the oil on the cylinder shaft that were spaced about 1/16" apart. These clues led me to the chattering assumption.

There's no draft control on this tractor; straight Position Control and nothing else. I'll put a straightedge on the shaft to check straightness, but it's seen only easy use since being installed. I'd be surprised if it was bent.

I can feather the cylinder extension easily. The slower I move it the quieter it gets. Didn't notice that when the link was in the top hole...may have been that way, maybe not. But slowing it down definitely quiets it down now. Maybe your restrictors would help. I'll look for some next time I visit TSC.

Oh, yeah: Squirted some LPS3 on the lower link pins last night and squared up the Pat's EZ change hooks. No change noted.
