Hydralic Oil Question

   / Hydralic Oil Question #41
Well, lets think,no better yet,let me go look,o.k.,,,I have been brushoging with front one[little short one],in low,,the other one,[the one under seat],in high,,I have no whine that way, when I have been tilling,I move one under seat to low also[low/low],no whine there, whine just is noticable if you put front one in high, which,I have no need to do,I don't drive it down any public road,,,so I have been using one under seat as creeper also,,but I think the other one[little front one],is actually called creeper? But,you would not think any gear combination, would hurt any thing as long as you were low enough for job,[not lugging],,as far as fuel consumption,,this thing hardly uses any,,seems like I brushoged[light grass and weeds only],one time this summer, about 6-7 hrs,on maybe a little more than 1/2 tank of fuel,,,,,,just took my tiller off,and now have my deer carryer on back[carryall],when deer season is all over, about 1st dec.,I will put blade on,,and leave it on for snow, till next spring, bow season starts sat. here,I am at the end of working tractor this year[carrying deer, and blading snow, ain't really work, its more like play,,,,uh oh better knock on my head again,,we could get one of those snows like we got about 7-8 years ago,,3-4 ft in my yard,,no drifts,,,heck,it would still be playing,,thingy

I got tied of waiting for the hydralic oil to warm up today and even though I have less than 20 hours on my Jinma 204, I set about changing that oil..

Following the recommendation in this thread, I had already picked up 5 gals of AW32.

Then following the Direction link and those procedures. I completed the process in about 2 hrs. The biggest deal was installing the backhoe so I could flush the OEM oil from that system as well.. Then there was the battle with that heavy operator seat. (Seat comfort does have it's price!)

Raising the FEL and backhoe, to extend the cylinders, was a good tip. After stopping the engine, I had to pull on the loader bucket and the hoe bucket to get these cylinders to 'collapse'. Wow! Did I get a lot more oil than the resevour would hold. Fortunately I had positioned my oil change catch pan under the rear of the tractor.

I'm not sure how much oil I took out, but it took about 3 gals to refill the entire system.

The hydraulic sump and filter were as clean as I would expect for a new system. No alarming grit or trash.

However I don't like the fact that they use Teflon tape on all the hydraulic fitting treads. Being retired Navy and a former DOD/aerospace contractor, I know these agencies say that Teflon tape in hydraulics is a "NO-NO!" . The tape schreds and those little stings get under valve seats. And I did find some taces of Teflon tape in the filter screen.

Opps! I'll get off my Soap-Box and wait for the counter arguements to appear.

Anyway, the test after the hydraulic oil change were very good. Hardly seemed like the same tractor. I'll know better in the cold morning.

Hi..I fully agree with you about the "Teflon"tape issue.Sometimes you have to ignore the "engineers" and continue with the real world. I use Loctite Hydraulic sealer whenever possible. It works much better than the tape.and you don't have those ugly shreads of white tape to explain.

Me three. And I'd like to add one more to the "don't do" list. Don't be tempted to use Permatex - or any other "gasket in a tube" - as gasket replacements around hydraulic components. My Jinma seller had a mechanic who had a love affair going with Permatex. When my hydraulics slowed down, I lifted the cover to inspect the suction screen. Found that the mechanic had Permatex'd not only the filter cover, but the entire hydraulic reservior to the transmission as well. He slopped enough inside both the reservoir and the trany, to necessitate another flush and fill.
