Hydraulic 5' blower on a JD 2210?

I may have posted the wrong pump- they do make pumps designed for the 1000rpm of the mid PTO.

I was figuring about $1k for the pump/parts for it, and the used 60" blower will be at least $2.5 if not $3k. so no, I'm not saving anything over a $3200 JD 47" front-mount blower. But I get a hydraulic system for other uses, and a very quick change between the bucket and blower.

I just don't want to do a 1/4 mile hilly drive in the dark, backwards every time. :)

Jer- I was thinking the same on the reservoir, but figured I could put a sheet of 1/4" steel over it if it was a concern. It would be tucked up much higher than the tranny so I'd hit that on the stumps first I think. :) I was also considering getting a quick-hitch and mounting the tank it on that, between the posts. Partly it depends on how many gallons the tank has to be. I've read that it should at least match the GPM of the pump, but 10-20g is pretty big.

I was going to use a PRV next to the pump for protection, and also when the unit is off I'd put a short jumper hose on the quick-disconnects on the loader arm. That way if I engaged the PTO with the pump on it by accident it's running though an open loop, not dead-headed. That would also protect the QDs from dirt from loader use.

I think I have a quik-tatch on my bucket- I'll have to find a picture to compare.

But I'm about convinced that I don't have the HP to do this- certainly don't want to put over $4k in to it, lots of hours, then have nothing usable.

Ebay has several front-mount shaft drive blowers already for in the $2k range...

Ya, you'll need 1 gallon in the reservoir per GPM. I'm going to build a 3pt mounted system like can be found on TBN - search for provonost and you'll see a beauty one mounted on the back of a Kubota.

I think you'll be able find a good used blower for WAY cheaper than that though. I saw some this past year that were 7-8' for 1500$. They needed a blast and a paint job, but were otherwise fine.

I don't have the option of a front mount blower, they just don't make them for my machine. It'd be nice for you to not have to remove your FEL every time though.

I think you'll actually be better off with the 1000rpm pump in terms of options. Have you seen the Prince PTO ready units??

The RPM of the Mid PTO is 2100, not 1000.

It needs to be very close for proper cooling, Especially since you'd be running a motor constanly. Logsplitters get away with smaller reservoir's because of the low duty cycle.

You do, Just remove the two pins at the bottom and uncurl the shoes out of the top hooks. This is JD's proprietary QA, NOT a Skid-Steer QA

Yep, don't know why I thought it was 1000:
Speed-Mid PTO rpm @ 2900 engine RPM 2100 rpm

I was figuring I'd have to weld up something to mount to my bucket arms. Thought I'd figure that out when whatever unit I bought arrived. Could not be too hard to match the existing hook/pins.

So I guess I've given up for my tractor- not enough power to drive a 60", and not worth the trouble for anything less.

I still want a 5' blower somehow. :) I've been thinking of maybe a self-powered one, but the all-up weight would have to be under 800 pounds, and should be closer to 600 to make me comfortable.

But a 21hp engine is pretty expensive, and big too. I've even thought of splitting the blower and running one stage from my PTO, and the other stage from a add-on engine. :0

I've looked in to getting a bigger tractor (which is the right solution) but I don't need the HP for anything else, and it'd take a lot of thousands to jump up to something big enough.

There is a 60" PTO driven Kubota blower in today's craigslist for $2000. Maybe I'll get it and give it a try. Most of the time our snow is light and fluffy anyway. If it gets slushy, I can use the blade/bucket to help clean up, or just take 1/2 passes.

How hard is it to paint JD green over that orange?

I don't know if you'll get enough PTO HP to run a hydraulic pump with enough GPM's and pressure to power the blower. I seem to recall Surplus Center gave PTO HP numbers for various sized Prince 540RPM PTO pumps.

My 4200 is rated at 26HP for the engine and 20HP for the rear PTO.

You'll probably be better off rigging up a separate gas engine to power the blower, and you'll need plenty of rear ballast to keep everything balanced.
