Hydraulic Blow out

I was back in my woods using my brush hog when I felt a loss of power, but the engine was running fine. Finally I had nothing. Tractor is Hyrdostat so wasn't even moving. Got out of the tractor the find hydro fluid all over left rear tire.

Couple questions: I was thinking about using neighbors tractor to pull it out of the woods since it's in a very brushy mosquito infected area which woul make reapair a pain. Any reason I can't move it? Also, once I get it out, is this something I should even attempt to fix myself? Not sure how I'd find the source of the problem with fluid everywhere.

I believe you can pull them real slow in neutral. There may also be a bypass screw or nut you turn to tow. You could also pull it up on a trailer and trailer it back to your work area. Wipe it down, and look for the obvious, like a hose, fitting, seal, etc. Hydraulic filter might have blown out.

Once you find the trouble, use some Dawn detergent and spray or brush on the spilled fluid. It will break it down and you can rinse it away.

With the engine off and the speed range shift in neutral, the HST is
disconnected from the gearbox so the tractor can free-wheel. If you
lost a lot of fluid, your steering with the engine off will be limited, so you
don't want to have to tow it a long way. Depending on how the steering
valve is configured on that machine, the steering may work for only a short
period of time with the engine off.

As for mosquitos...if you are a Yooper, aren't you more concerned about
black flies?

Thanks for the help. I got the tractor out of the woods with help from the neighbor. I took off the filter and there is a big crack in it. I'm guess that's the problem. Looks like something mus have hit it. Maybe a rock thrown by the brush hog.

Anyway, now a dumber question... the manual refers to it as the Transmission oil filter and the the oil used to refill is Transmission oil. I'm sure this is what leaked everywhere since when I pulled the filter barely any leaked out. My question is, is this the same fluid that runs the hydrolics?

Also, is there a size on the oil filter or are they pretty standard. Can't seem to find anything on the filter or in the manual.

As for the black flies... I live in Northern Lower Michigan. Just south of the mackinaw bridge. Mosquitos are worse here. Black flies is a UP thing.

hit your kubota dealer.. this is a b7610 correct?

if it is a hst trans.. it's very likely it uses the same oil as the hyds.. ie sumtin' like udt or sudt oil from kubota.

no.. most filters are not 'standard' size. get one MEANT for your unit.. hst trans are too expensive and finicky to throw any old fitler on there that you can get to engage the threads and twist on.

If that is the same as a B7500 there are 2 filters on the tranny, one for the hrdro and one for the hydraulics. They are each side of the case and they ARE different.

Thanks for all of your help. A $7 filter and 4 gallons of udt fluid and I'm back in business. The best I can figure is that a rock thrown by the brushhog cracked the filter. Either way, I was able to fix it and get back to work. Crazy that 4 gal of fluid got sprayed around my woods.

Common occurence for filters to get poked by sticks or rocks. some machines you can fashion guards for the sensitive areas.. others it's not so easy.

good luck.. glad it was a realitively cheap /easy fix.
