Hydraulic Breaker/Hammer for TLB / Skidsteer

Looking at your picture. The Jack hammer being used is an electric model. When I have a large job to breakup, renting a compressor and pneumatic operated jack hammer is far superior to the electric type.

Agreed Ron. I use a 60lb when I have a combination of walls and slab and a 90 when it's pure slab. I've broken up many yards of concrete. The trick is not to sit on the hammer and to move it around with your thigh and arms. Leave your back ouot of it. The electric hammers do not come even remotely close to the power of air powered hammers.

Maybe rent or buy a chain saw. They go for about $1500 new, but should have a great resale value. They weigh about 30 pounds and take a bit of muscle, but any way you attack that massive chunk concrete will be a lot of work.

Really....I looked at the air operated, but it was so much lighter than the electric one. I can hardly lift the electric one so I figured the sheer mass of it could do more damage. Actually, I talked to a friend last night who said the same thing....air = damage.

Good info. Should have posted this message last Thursday /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I've used the electric before with great success, but that was on a relatively thin slab. This thing is a beast and now I'm finding two feet of field stone they set as a base so it's hard to get underneath it with a hoe or a shovel.

5,

That's actually my next move. The stuff I have access to is called "Betonomite". I believe similar "breaking agent" is made by another company or two. I've been looking at that stuff for a year, but never actually tried any.

I'm going to have to start drilling again....got a 1" rock bit for my Bosch hammer drill. The bit does not like steel or rebar which this ridiculously overbuilt structure is full of. I'll let you know how it goes.

BTW: There are no quick-attach Bobcat hammers/breakers within 75 miles, so that's out, unless I get super desperate.

Either get a air hammer, you can get them as big as you want to lift and bigger /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Use bull points (they are the spearhead ones) and just keep making holes in a line until you have a crack. Dont get the point stuck unless you have a couple others to dig your way out with. The air hammer hits harder and faster than the electric. They are just not as cheap or as portable for homeowner use.

Or I kind of like the demolition saw idea. If you get a crack started it will run in concrete.

Still, there is always explosives /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

It does...it also would have made a perfect giant bar-b-que for a pig roast! Unfortunately, the engineers placed the bend in my road right through the middle of it /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Yeah, explosives is what I've been thinking.....for no other reason than to watch the thing fly into little pieces. No protective tire blankets on this one either, just a joyous display of destructive power /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
