Hydraulic change at 50 hrs. unnecessary?

/ Hydraulic change at 50 hrs. unnecessary? #11
The first time I changed the oil on my M9000 it looked just about new...

Also if I remember correctly the Kubota's should have a magnet somewhere around the filter housings to catch metal particles...

On my red tractor, the manual states that the hydro and hst filters need to be changed at 50 hrs. and the fluid at 300 hrs. Close to 200 hrs and the fluid looks and smells like new. On my orange tractor, the fluid looked terrible at the 50 hr service.

Magnets do not pick up the aluminum particles....

( My tractor has two very large filters for the hydraulic system (replacement cost well over $100 - so they must be of good quality). )

mine does too.. I'd still change both. I'd feel horrible stupid if I let 150$ worth of oil and filters kill my 26K$ tractor /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

( would not catch any and all trash (large, small, metal shavings etc...) )

I'd also worry about other contaminants from manufacturing.. super fines, moisture that may have accumulated from setting.. or cleaning.. or prior to assembly.. etc. A gear tranny may not get the utf as hot as a hydro.. moisture may not flash off as well.

I just did a 'ful' lservice on my tractor.. between the (3) fuel filters, (1) oil, filter, (2) hydro filters, and (2) air filters, and (3) pails of oil and many tubes of grease.. I spent almost 300$.. but I feel better knowing that it is done..

I was also advised by my dealer that they considered the fluid change "optional" at 50hrs. Routinely, they don't do it as part of the normal service but would at my request. I decided that it needed to be done and wanted to switch to the Chevron synthetic all weather THF, so I did the fluid change myself. The fluid that came out had obvious traces of moisture contamination which I attribute to setting on the dealers lot through the winter season as I purchased at the end of March. Bottom line, I'm glad I did it and would do so again on any future new tractors.

My dealer indicated to me that there is nothing magical about the 50 hour THF change. He said it is better to judge by the condition of the fluid. Some tractors will have fluid that is like new at 100 hours, while others need to be changed before the 50 hour mark.

I would think the fluid in a hydro tranny would be more likley to need to be changed earlier, as it operates at a much higher temp.

Your right, there is no magic associated with that requirement, it is a given.

It's also not magic when you don't change it @ 50 and your paying for major reparis later on down the line.

Same thing happened to me /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
Called dealer for hyd. filter to pick up.
Dealer said dont worry about the trans oil untill 500 hrs.
I said the book says 50 hrs. and he said they dont go by that.
Im still gonna do it before 100 hrs., but I am sorta stunned by it. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Considering the reports of metal shavings that show up in the first hydro change.......Shouldn't it be covered under warranty as they apparently did not clean out the tranny properly ? I mean after all we are sort of completing the manufacturing process.
