One of the lift cylinders on my tractor has been leaking at the seal so I ordered a seal kit to repair. I removed the cylinder, clamped it into the be h vise and proceeded to put some muscle into with a cheater bar and the vise broke. So, I need some ideas on how to get a stubborn cylinder apart. What ya got? IMG_20190522_113432961.jpgIMG_20190522_113436635.jpg

The last cylinder I took apart I ratchet strapped it to a forklift fork and put a pipe through the back end so it couldn’t turn.

You can reinstall the cylinder halfway, so the pin holds it from turning. You should look carefully to see if you have any locking pins or screws to keep the gland from turning.

Done this job on my Kioti last year. There is a gland nut collar on the cylinder. I see you have one also. I left the cylinder attached to the loader arm to prevent it from turning and used a big pipe wrench to take the collar off, came off fairly easy. I also disconnected the hyd lines so the fluid will drain out relieving the suction when you pull the rod out. Good Luck !

I stole the forklift idea from someone and put more torque on it. Once it broke loose, it came off easily.IMG_20190523_095833589.jpgIMG_20190523_095841880.jpg

I've got a back injury that forces me to use leverage instead of brute force. If it hadn't broken free easily, I'd have jammed the cheater pipe in under 2 tons of feed and used the forklift to either free it or bend the pipe.

Good job ! Its all about the leverage....

If you where smart you would use the lifting power of the fork lift to break it loose on the machine.

I strapped a full sized air operated jack hammer on a fork lift once to remove a stuck backhoe pin...it worked.
