hydraulic failure

This AM. I replaced the spin on filter. Started the motor--no action from either the FEL or the bush hog. Shut down the engine. Removed the bottom high pressure hose from the FEL, started the engine--no fluid at all from the hose !

It looks like the pump is not operating. The dealer said a new one would cost somewhere about four hundred dollars. He said the pump was not real hard to remove. 4-bolts and slide it off and inspect the spline shaft which powers the pump. If that is in good condition, replace the pump with the new one. That should solve my problem ?

Thanks for any comments.

Now, on the 3520 I seem to remember the manual showing a tiny in line screen/filter just before the hydro pump. Maybe they are the same, also, make sure you check the internal screen in the trans axle area.

One more possibility -

Our Branson 3510 came with the backhoe mounted and lived that way the first two years of its life. The first time I removed the backhoe and reconnected the 3-point the hydraulics collapsed. No flow. I changed the filter, cleaned the screen, etc. Still no flow. I then trailed it into our local independent dealer. His guy put the gauges to it and within an hour found the filter base was plugged - completely packed with trash. I'm guessing this stuff collected in the 3-point hose over the first two years of use and blew out in one big chunk when the 3-point was recommisioned.

My only regret was not trailing it in sooner. Cost me $65 for the hour of his time. I spent nearly that on fluid and filters and I'll never get the hours back.

update on century 2535. Worse case scenario. Female drive gear stripped. Looks like a bearing might have failed and caused this malfunction. However, my dealer said this is a Seven hundred and fifty dollar repair job if nothing else has failed>
More later

I was HOPING to see some progress.
Was it just that PTO gear at the front of the engine ?
Was there other damage ? (I hope NOT)
How about root cause ?

I assume you got the shop manual by now and that your local Branson dealer/parts guy came through with the gear.

PS Pictures ?

Century 2535 repaired and back in the field. The gear which drives the steering pump and the hydro was stripped on the hydro side. Took nearly 4 weeks to get the $135.00 gear at the Branson dealer.

Job time- 6 hours down-8 hours up. [this includes complete fluid and motor oil change]
Working fine, except for some reason, when we started the engine, the idle speed was higher than before we did the gear work. Guess i will learn something else new here--how to adjust the idle speed. I don't find that addressed in the shop manual i have.

Thanks to all the helpful comments here, really appreciated.

That's great news and didn't cost a whole lot.

I seem to remember seeing something about this in one of the manuals. It might have been the operators manual. I'll go have a look and post back if I find it.
