Hey all still slowly progressing with acquiring bits and pieces but I would like an answer to a question. Somewhere I read (possibly here) about fittings that shouldn't be used and I can't remember i fit was brass or galv that was a no no. But there is also a possibility my pain killers may have been kicking in and I imagined it but I would like to clarify this thanks pete

For high pressure hyd, use steel only.

NO galvanized water fittings or black pipe.

No brass or copper.

JJ, don't forget nipples, they need to be XH (Schd 80) seamless also. That can be the weak link. Those black fittings at the hardware store are malleable iron (125# pressure rating). Hydraulic shop or industrial supply place or the most reliable sources. The average person has no clue about this stuff. I bought a used log splitter, the guy was selling it because he had repiped it for a new valve and used malleable fittings and sched 40 seamed nipples and couldn't figure out why the fittings kept breaking. Made real deal on that.

That is one heck of a way to get a deal for yourself and maybe save his life at the same time. Maybe JJ could send him some of those fluid injection injury photos?

I actually told him his problem, guess he got scalded a couple times and did not want to mess with it anymore. It cost me $50 to but new fittings and an hour to re-pipe it again. I was able to leave out several fittings also. Works fine for me.
