Hope I dont get drummed out for this,.... LOL

I have a Gehl CTL 70 Basicly a Mustang MTL 20 Track Loader.

It has a 19.8 GPM pump that runs at a max of approx 2760 psi

I am contemplating making a log splitter for it but I need to determine how much force it would generate with a 4.5 bore cylinder. I think the rod is right at 2 inch of that matters.

I used to have a Excel Sheet that would calculate this for me but no more...

I am conflicted on doing this as I would loose my skid steer for hauling the wood out while someone else runs the splitter... But I am sure I can figure out the logistics of the change if it occurs.

Thanks in advance.

43.896 lbs or 21.9 Tons of force. GPM will determin the cycle time.

Extension speed is 4.8 in per sec.
retraction speed is 6.0 in per sec

There are many hydraulic sites to calculate force.
Area = 3.14 r 2 x PSI = force
Force in div 2000 = tons.
21 tons

Thanks Gentelmen, Based on that and recalling previous caculation I have done regarding an engine driven splitter I will stick with it and not loose my skid steer for moving equiptment.

Thanks Fellas..

Actually they are both rebadged Tachiuchi machines.

If you run a fair amount of wood through the splitter keep an eye on the hydraulic oil temperature in the reservoir. Ideally it should stay below ~190ーF. Using the track loader is fine, but it will have more line losses than your typical engine-on-a-splitter setup, which will create more heat.
