Hydraulic Fluid Change

Newbie Just got a 1992 ford 1620 with the HST. Want to change the hydraulic fluid. Do I put the 3pt all the way UP or DOWN? Do I fill the filters before putting them on? Any precautions I should take to prevent air in system? Found out the fluid hasn’t been changed in at least 12yrs. Thanks in advance

Down if you wish to worry about it. Will make a minimal difference in the amount of fluid.
Just be aware that after draining and refilling some machines are a bit of a pain getting circulation established again. It may be worth while to loosen or remove the main line out of the hydraulic pump to allow air to escape.

I just did mine yesterday and didn’t worry about the three point or filling the filter ahead of time. I started it up and let it run a minute, moved the three point up and down a couple of times, then backed up. There was a slight glitch backing up then it was fine.

The only time i had an air purge/priming problem, was when i replaced the hyd pump on my 1984, 1910.

I had a 1900 and 2110 and there's a three hole triangular gasket you may need to replace in order to clean the sump screen. You may or may not have this screen. It's model and year dependent so check a tech or owner's manual.

I changed the trans oil in mine a few times and no airlocks. I changed it hot and on a hot day, filled back up right away and ran it ASAP. I think that helps. Work the lift arms to burp the system of air.

having the FEL and 3ph lowered will give you will give you slightly more of a complete change but almost negligible. you could prefill filters, not that important if feel, but completely clean the screens, you know that, regards
