I am looking for a sure-fire easy method to change the Hydraulic fluid in my YM1610D, I have changed all other fluids on the tractor according to the advice offered by you guys with no problems. I dont have a service manual to consult with, so any help would be great!! Also does the 1610D have a hydraulic filter??

Not much to it jlinn1. Just unscrew the drain plug at the bottom of the rear axle case. It will drain the rear axle, hydraulics, and transmission oil. Also remove the drain plug in the 4wd drop box (the box that hangs under the transmission that the 4wd driveshaft attaches to). After it all drains, replace the plugs & locate the internal screen (no spin on filter on the 1610) behind the 3 bolt plate on the left side of the rear axle case. Clean the screen off with diesel or brake cleaner & inspect for holes or tears. Re-install the screen. Fill with a JD303 compatible oil & your ready to go again.

Will that procedure also drain the hydraulic fluid in the loader hoses, or is there a separate procedure for that? I was under the impression that the loader shares fluid with the transmission??

Will that procedure also drain the hydraulic fluid in the loader hoses,

It won't but for general maintenance you will not need to drain the loader hoses & cylinders. That would be a very thorough fluid change that I would say was only necessary if you had severely contaminated oil.

If you did want to drain those though you would need to loosen or remove the hoses & cycle the cylinders in & out by hand (with the tractor off) to clear out all of the oil.

I was under the impression that the loader shares fluid with the transmission??

It does.

Hello all I am in the same situation...I have a new (used) 1610 D, which was running great until the cold weather/snow hit this week. The hydraulics are not working in the cold, I am guessing I have contaminated fluids? Will the above mentioned method for changing the hydraulic oil be sufficient, or do I need to be more thorough?

Thanks
