Hydraulic/hitch labels (1700)?

I've got the owner's manual (from Hoye), but not the shop manual (which after my adventure with the radiator and fan belt I'll be ordering). The owner's manual doesn't explain a rather detailed pictorial lable on the right fender by the hitch lever.

This label shows three pictures which obviously are supposed to illustrate how to adjust the hitch mechansim in some manner. Two of them illustrate two different positions of a cam-like plate under the seat on the left side. This plate itself has a lable on it for two positions: 'P', and 'D'.

What's this all about?

Are you refering to the 540 760 1000 speed range selector possibly?

I think this is what he's talking about. I use mine in the D position. It seems to float better in that position.

I'm pretty sure the decal you are talking about on the right fender by the hyd. lift lever is for the little lever about 1 inch long under your seat. It may or may not be red. It controls how fast your hydrolic lift lowers.
