Had two hoses made up this morning, one 4.5 ft and the other 5 ft. Both were 1/2 inch two braid hoses and had the usual fittings on each end, bill was almost $100!! You could have knocked me over with a feather. Sometimes I get tired of being the low man on the food chain.:(

That sounds good to me. I paid around 50 for about a 2 foot hose with fittings a couple of years ago. I would think the fittings is what makes the price.

Good Evenin Oleozz,
A couple of years ago I had a 4 ft line rust through on my Massey. It was on the front of my loader, and the previous tractor owner used the machine to load mulch. Some of the mulch got caught on the front of the loader and one line just rotted out. I went with a flexable line replacement, so I didnt have to do any fancy measuring to replace. I went to Salem Farm Supply in Salem, Ny. They made a replacement line and I also bought 5 gallons of hydraulic fluid for about $40 total. Im thinking it was about 3 years ago. Their prices were quite fair IMHO ! ;)

That's a nice anecdote, but one would be hard pressed to buy 5 gallons of name brand hydraulic oil for $40 today, let alone a 4 foot hydraulic hose as well.

I needed a 3' hose for my forklift tilt cyl. I looked at Tractor Supply and Northern Tool. Both had the hose for less than $10.but only had it with NPT ends. I wasn't sure which fitting I needed to adapt so I went to a hose shop and it cost me $30. Gotta pay to play!

When you get swivel JIC hose ends or any thing other than NPT thing get more expensive. Also the PSI rating of the hose makes a difference in price.I just bought 2-3/8 x36 hoses with NPT at farm and fleet for 8.99 each. These hoses are rated at 2500PSI. They are ok for my tractor but I wouldn't run them on the equiptment at work.

I've spent over $100 for a single hose that was 4' long and spent $15 for a single hose that was 4' long. The money is in the fittings. If you want swivel ends or other special do-dads the $$ goes up.

Now if your hoses were just straight JIC fittings, I would have walked out.

Weather Head double braid ~$3.25 per ft for 3/8 - 1/2, most JIC, NPT fixed around 2.50-5.00, swivel about 50% more, no crimp fee. Some others in area charge a $4-5.00 labor on the crimp. PSI rating on double braid varies per diameter: 1/4 is either 3,000 or 3,500, 1/2 is 2500, 1" is 1,600 IIRC. Can't remember all of them at the moment. In my part of town, price can more than double within a 3-5 mile range, regardless if it is Weather Head, Gates, Parker.

Your numbers are way low all the way around, especially on the psi.

Oleozz, that is not a terrible price. It's no deal, but you didn't get raped. BTW, there is no such thing as the "usual" fittings.

Prices also vary depending on customer's attitude. :)

IMHO, charging labor for a hose is like charging labor to put a case of oil on the shelf.

I got questioned today on my prices, the guy told me my prices were high. I drive a Ford Ranger, almost no options. I can't afford any better. He pulls up in a $51,000 King Ranch Ford F-350. He's a local contractor. It gets kind of tiring all these guys pulling up in these high dollar vehicles telling me I charge too much when I can't afford what they drive.
