Bumping this thread with an update, in case others run into this same issue. After replacing the 0-ring several times over the course of a year, which always fixed the leak temporarily, I finally suspected that there was a machining discrepancy in the ORB fitting itself, which was causing the recurring problem. The internal diameter of the captured flat washer in the original fitting was just slightly too large around the barrel of the fitting. That allowed part of the 0-ring eventually to squeeze between the washer and barrel, breaking the seal at the boss in the valve body. In exasperation, I ordered a new fitting for $27, and sure enough, the captured washer on the replacement fits much tighter to the barrel.
I'm pretty confident the leak is finally fixed for good. In the meantime, I got very fast at changing out that 0-ring.
