I’m looking for advice on repairing a hydraulic leak on a Ford New Holland 1710 tractor.
I’m pretty sure the leaks are originating from the controls for the bucket. I replaced the hoses thinking that was the problem but realized the source of the leak was from above. Im assuming that the seals around the shafts of the control are leaking. I’m wondering if that is something I could tackle or I-need to hire someone to repair the leak. Any advice would be appreciated.

Are you fairly mechanical? If so, not a very difficult chore. The are 2 different makes of valves that use seal on the spool at either end.
Through New Holland the seals are pricey.
You might be able to remove a seal and have it matched at a bearing shop or find on line aftermarket.

Best thing is to take the valve off of the tractor and work on it on a bench. Also, you must be very clean when you work on it.

Look under: 07 Hydraulics
Then:

05E04 - 2-SPOOL REMOTE CONTROL VALVE (OPTIONAL) - 84/10-8
OR
05E04A - 2-SPOOL REMOTE CONTROL VALVE (OPTIONAL) - 11-85

First things first. Before you do anything to the valve, look to see if it has two or three hose connecting it to the tractor. If it has only two, replacing O rings on the spools will only last a short while. Count your hoses than come back.

I'm assuming...not good, that it has the original valve that Ford used on it, which would not have orings.
It would have 3 lines connected to the tractor and look like that in one of the parts illustrations

Well I'm not assuming that at all. In fact, I'm assuming it's got only two lines, not power beyond configured, and no sump return line. Load on the three point stacks pressure through the entire valve body. Over time, that, along with some increased clearance in the spool fit, can overcome the seals (whatever they may be) and leaks develop. Simply replacing the seals is a band aid that will probably stop the leaks for a while, but not solve the problem long term.

When I find that situation with an old valve, I suggest replacing it with a later style valve with power beyond.

We'll see what he comes back with.

I am assuming that it is the OEM valve from Ford with power beyond and after 40 years, the seals have dried and worn, but we are both speculating so yes, we will see
