yes I have.
Kool, how did it do ?, Any action shots ?

Curious as to how big it can cut, sure 5" will fit, but doubt that size cylinder has enough force to do the job.

Maybe not with the angle I have on the cutting side now, about 45 degrees. I do plan to taper the cutting edge similar to an axe.

Mr. Brown, The proper way to prune a limb is just to the outside of the branch collar. That area contains lots of active growing cells and if pruned just outside the collar, the cells will eventually heal over the wound and the result will look like a small closed eye on the bark.

You know what, I have never used that word before, and I did not know what a branch collar was and had to look it up. So here it is.

Prune to the outside of a tree's branch collar for fast healing and good tree health. The branch collar is the swelling located at the base of the branch, where it arises from another limb or the trunk. The branch collar is like a hospital isolation ward; it houses protective chemicals that help keep diseases from invading the parent limb. When removing a branch for any reason, leaving that branch collar in place shuts out any passing pathogens.

J_J,
If you haven't modified the blade to be more like an AXE, let me know. I think my mill would be the perfect way to change that angle to what you want, rather than a grinder. We should be able to do it without too much problem if you bring it over. No charge.

Hi David,

Thanks, I just might do that.

Very cool and well thought-out attachment JJ.

I took some pics of a right-of-way saw when they were doing the power lines in my neighborhood. Reminded me of Mad Max. They don't seem to attempt to cut to the collar but it makes a clean cut. Probably chops all the way through before the branch starts falling.

Mad Max, that great man.

Hey J_J,
Your Limbshear is perfect for my needs, really like to build one. Can you PM the hydraulic specs and any drawings for one that can be built. My brother works at a steel supplier and I can get any type or shape of steel.
I certainly would be indebted to you!
Thanks
Kneedeep :log:
