My new hydraulic auger just arrived yesterday and I need to attach the hydraulic lines. Is there a standard tightness for the threaded fittings to be installed/torqued? Or, do I just crank them down until the gasket (O-ring?) is compressed?
Secondly, I assume the lines are dry (empty), and the auger head may or may not be...is it likely that filling this empty space will require me to top up my hydraulic system?
Thanks,
BOB

Maybe a QT or two.

After the air is purged out, check the fluid level when warm.

Depends on size and type. If you have #8 ORFS (8 = 1/2") lube the o-ring and tighten to 37lb-ft.

Thanks for the responses.
I started unpacking it last night. I immediately ran into a problem, though. There is a pair of male-female adaptors which are shown (in the parts list/schematic) to go between the hose ends and the auger drive inlets. However, the female threads in the adaptors seem to be slightly smaller than the male threads on the ends of the hoses. At least I couldn't get them threaded together.
Having said that, however, it looks like the male threads on the "adaptor" are the same as the male threads on the hoses....so, do I need the adaptor at all? Can't I just thread the hoses directly into the auger drive outlets without the adaptors (assuming the threads do match, of course)?
Finally, I guess it was foolish of me to even ask about torque, since the hoses will prevent me from putting a torque wrench on the fitting anyway.

I see only two reasons to use adapters on the hoses to the auger. One they do not match and are required. Two if the hose end is not a swivel fitting, I would want the adapter to have a swivel fitting for easier hose changing/connecting when a new hose is needed.

Use a crowfoot wrench on your torque wrench to torque hoses or fittings that you can not use a socket on.
