here's a pic of the stand that fits into the receiver we mounted on the bottom.

the yellow handle on the right is for putting it in free spool.

the yellow spring in the middle holds a plate against the spool to keep the cable from wrapping itself into a birds nest.

i may just take it off.

if i do all my logging before or after "bug season" i can live without the window and doors. they all come off easy enough. i may even make expanded metal replacements.

i knew it was going to be close, but feel a lot better with all that steel between me and the cable. iv'e seen cable's brake before and it's never been pretty.

Excellent job on the winch, I am currently building one similar to yours, I am using a Ramsey hydraulic winch. What type of winch did you use? Do you find that the winch speed is fast enough? I plan on using a pto driven hydraulic pump and the winch will have it's own oil reservoir.
