Hydraulic oil change time

Thinking with the ex change rate this oil would be a great deal down here in the usa

I agree that the Amsoil lube costs more but you get what you pay for. The Klondike lube looks good though. It cost me about $75 more (only one 5 gal pail Amsoil needed) to change out my trans/hydraul lube than the products listed above but I feel that the lower pour point, higher flash point (good for year round use) and the extremely good results on the 4/ball wear test, etc are worth it to me. Any components in the drive line/hydraulics of my tractor are not cheap to repair! I guess my peace-of-mind is worth the extra cost.
Thanks, Dutchy

Dutchy,

I agree, however in this case, the specs are a little better on the Klondike than the Amsoil. Amsoil is generally my oil of choice, but there are other oils just as good. In addition to this, hydraulic oil doesn稚 have to endure the same punishment as diesel motor oil, so synthetics are often overkill except in extreme conditions. The benefit of synthetics in hydraulics is the broader specs than dino oils. Remember, Amsoil doesn稚 have any magic ingredients or technologies, they just choose to blend in higher quality or higher spec壇 ingedients. Certain of Amsoil products are no better than other brands, and in a few cases are sub-par: ie their diesel fuel additives.

You are 100 percent right Amsoil is now offering hydocracked synthetic oils , along with their higher grade ester blends...I use to be an Amsoil dealer , it's a good oil but no better than some other brands , I personally at this moment in time use hydocracked synthetic exclusivity in all my equipment...

I have a New Holland tractor - TC30. I use Multi G 134 for hydraulic oil. I am following what my manual calls for. It takes about 9.5 US gallons. I replace the hydraulic filter at the same time. That is important to do.

Do you have the manual? Not all oil is the same. I'd follow the manual's recommendation before I would take word of mouth. Your tractor is too valuable to trust to some one else's judgement.

Here is a link to parts - filters, manuals etc. Get the manual first - then change the hydraulic oil.

Good luck.

I do not get hung up on brands. I care about performance and specifications. No brand loyalty here. If Amsoil stops making good oil, I値l stop using them.

Different purposed oils have different demands and requirements put in them. Hydraulic oils need consistent viscosity, temperature resistance, low compressability, and lubricity, amount a few other things. I think most suppliers do a pretty good job of this. Especially given the price point compared to motor oils.

Diesels motor oils have a unique challenge in that they must be able to suspend a high degree of contaminants, such as soot and egr gasses that get passed the rings. Diesel oil must suspend these and remain stable or else you get oxidation and sludge. In fact, when it reaches its tipping point, the particles can drop out of suspension almost instantly causing the oil to go from fluid to sludge within a few minutes. This causes catastrophic engine failure. This has happened to a number of Mercedes Diesel engines in cars, SUVs, and Sprinters where the wrong grade of oil was used. Amsoil diesel oil seems to do a good job of preventing sludging and remaining stable for long oil change intervals, which I verified for myself with oil analysis on multiple brands at regular intervals between oil changes. I can safely say that so long as your engine has a good volume of oil (10+ litres or quarts) the Amsoil diesel oil is good up to 20,000kms or 12,000 miles.

With UTF even some of the cheap oils are good for well over 600 hrs, therefore any decent synthetic will give you exceptional protection for 400 hrs change intervals.

. . . Just my two cents.

Good advice. The answer is to read the recommended oil in a LS tractor manual, or call them on the phone and find out. Then find the same oil under a different brand name with the same specs.

- I've had people say that 80/90 gear weight oil is the same as hydraulic oil. That might work for a hand hydraulic pump - but not much else.

Nothing like the manual and the information you obtain. Otherwise you are going blindfolded by what someone's grandfather swore by 40 years ago!

My Service manual (XR4040c) calls for API GL4 Viscosity Grade 46/68 (any good 303 universal tractor fluid) will meet or exceed these specs , Synthetic tractor fluid by far exceeds the manufacturer recommend tractor fluid ?

I have owned tractors that that came from factory with 80/90 in transmission at first service I changed to a standard 303 universal tractor fluid . 99.9 percent of tractors will use 303 universal tractor fluid even the Green tractors....
