At my 50 hour filter change I tried regular filter wrenches and big channel lock pliers with no luck. Ended up getting a chain wrench and a cheater, then it came right off.
I have had good luck tightening and removing my big hydraulic filter witih an ordinary but apparently a bit larger oil filter steel band type wrench. I always end up super tightening that big hydraulic because on both kioti's (ck20 and ck 2015) that bigblack hydro filter bleeds hydro oil. I have used that steel band filter for seven years now and despite my need to tighten the can I have always been successful removing or tightening with that particular wrench.
I only got that one because of the surfing reference.
