hydraulic oil dipstick levels???

First I make sure I have my HI-power reading glasses on. Then I determine the closest location where I can have the sun shining on the dip stick. Clean the dip stick well, dip it, move to the sun, angle the stick so you are looking down its length and see where the oil mark is. This often takes more coordination than I have - so I've got a lot of experience/practice in this area. At times I end up feeling like the dip stick.

thanks y'all, ive tried many different ways, masking tape works but you have to leave it in awhile and i get so paranoid the darn tape will come off the dipstick and end up in the hyd. system. the darn fluid is just so clear that reading it anywhere but outside is impossible. even outside its very very hard to tell. the dipstick is a round rod bout 3/16" dia. by the way, not flat. wont be drillin any holes in that puppy but i know what you mean. thanks

I use the Sharpie method. Take a Sharpie marker and paint the end of the dipstick black. It dries very quickly. Then insert back into the tractor and when you pull it out the black dipstick shows the level very clearly.
