I would think that the fuel filters would catch any moisture or metal particles that are big enough to cause any problems. The worst that could happen is a premature fuel filter failure. If they will run on biodiesel they will for sure run on oil. It might not be a good time now to experiment what with cold weather coming on as pure diesel gets a little thick in the winter without adding 10W oil to it. If I had a good supply of clean oil, I wouldnt hesitate to mix it up in the summer months. Dont know about 50/50 mix though. That sounds a little high, maybe 10%.

so you've done a UOA on it to determine what wear metals it has, and how much moisture?

I'm interested... I'm coming up on an oil hydraulic oil change... and the last time I did it, it look good as new... recycling it saves me nothing but if I burn it in the tank... :licking:

My tractor was only $10,000 and I would guess a replacement engine would be in the $3000 range. It only burns 3/4 of a gallon per hour or about $2.50 to run it for 1 hour. No way I would risk it for the small savings.

Just recycle it, not worth the risk.

I have heard of engines running away on things like this which can really get you hurt.

Diamondpilot and others; Sorry, I threw the clean hydro fluid in there so you wouldn't think I wanted to run dirty fluid through my system. So to answer a few questions yes it would be "used clean" hydro fluid. I have researched it and found that some folks actually search for hydraulic fluid to mix with their diesel, they feel it helps run the engine cleaner???? I was thinking of a mix about 1qt per 1gal, I have around 60gals that I just aquired. I did read that most of the folks doing this like to run a 50/50 mix.

Diamondpilot you are correct I'd have to be nutz :confused3: to pick new hydro over diesel because of cost :drink:

I would try to sell it. My ex girlfriends dad is in the oil business. He was getting $.75 per gallon at one time for used oil.

Why do you thing AutoZone wants you to recycle it there?

I save my change UTF and use it as 10% fuel in the Mahindra or fill for leaky front differential in Kubota. No change in performance in 750Hrs [getting stronger actually]. Hate to throw away "free" fuel or lube.

I would not put anything into diesel fuel that was not specifically designed to be combusted. MMO, ATF, HYDRO, etc.. were NEVER designed to be part of the combustion process.
That being said,in years past, when cylinder pressures were MUCH lower, and injection system tolerances were wider and injection pressures were much lower, things like that could be used.
If you want to add some lubricity to a modern fuel system, add some 2-stroke oil, Atleast it was designed to combust.

Thanks for all the advise folks, I may just give it to the local garage for their oil fired furnace. I did mix up a 5 gal bucket about 1qt for 5 gal, but I still have over 50+gal.
