Hydraulic Post Hole Auger bad for Kubota?

I'll just throw this out there...........

Has anyone looked at a hydraulic PHD designed for a mini-skidsteer? I would theorize the flow rate would be more compatible, and the weight shouldn't be much of a problem. It shouldn't be too difficult to adapt one to a standard skidsteer QA plate to go onto your tractor.

I'd not recommend one for a BX. You are on the small end of hydraulic power for any of the drives that I'm familiar with. They will cause more heat in the transmission but often in between holes a normal transmission is fine but you should have more pump then a BX offers.

Have you thought about a seperate system running a pto pump and tank?

Looking to buy a Hydraulic Post Hole Digger... mainly because I like having the added ability to reverse direction and also having the option of a loader or backhoe mount...

Ultrarunner, I know you are looking for a loader or backhoe mount. Just wondering what your thoughts are on considering a 3PT Post Hole Digger with the added Hydraulic Downforce Kit. Though you can't go reverse, it might be an option with your set up, if hydraulic capability is a problem.

I can understand if switching it out with the backhoe would be inefficient.

Thanks Altex...

I have a Landpride 3 point Post Hole Digger with Downforce kit... It does a good job in areas that I can physically get to with the 3 point.

The shortcomings are sometimes I can't safely get the 3 point close enough to where I want the hole and having no reverse if it gets caught in a root of boulder.

I've seen a Kubota B26 with a Backhoe Mounted Hydraulic Driller used when the State had a Landscape contractor planting trees along the interstate.

Looked like it was a great idea and I've been thinking of up-sizing to a B26 anyway and decided to call my Dealer and that's when I learned of the possible danger of overheating the Hydraulic Oil...

The last thing I want to do is damage my Kubota's Hydraulics if the hydraulic system is sensitive to the extra heat.

I'm the b3030 that messicks set up. I like the hydraulic PHD a LOT, but the b3030 is barely enough to handle it weight wise with an extension on. On the M59 its no problem at all.

Couldn't say on heat, I imagine it would depend how many holes you were digging, and how hot the day. Does anyone know whether the engine heat gauge reads the hydraulic fluid on a hydrostaic transmission?

Now what I'd really like, and have been bugging Messick for, is a connector to hook the hydraulic PHD on the M59s hoe. That would be darn nice for making holes.

Speed wise, even on the b3030, I find it fast enough all things considered. It may not spin quickly, but downforce from the FEL is great.

Curt,

You've said before that one of your properties has serpentine rock. Is this where you will be augering? Obviously you need to take that into consideration (and I'm sure you have) with downpressure, auger diameter, and appropriate to the task Pengo carbide tips and teeth.

Yes... there is quite a lot of it here in the hills... it's not everywhere, but you have to figure it is.

I watched a CAT Excavator and a large Komatsu Excavator drill holes 30" dia x 24' deep in one motion across the street and up the hill... it's amazing what the right equipment can do around here... the tailing looked like gravel ordered from a quarry... nice and uniform crushed rock.

Running a Bobcat 15c Hyd auger on a L5740. Have drilled over 30 24" holes for tree planting. Works quite well. Only issue I have is seeing the actual drilling due to the long hood. I will have this issue resolved soon. Putting a camera on the QA plate with a monitor in the cab.

3rd function valve is rated at 9.5 gpm.

I have a L5240 and am trying to run a post hole digger. The dealer told me the rear remotes have a little better flow then the 3rd function. I'm running hoses from the back to the front, my question is what size hose should I use? I have some 1/4" around, but am thinking maybe 1/2" would be better?
