Kioti CK30 HST
I'm going to put a hydraulic PHD on the front bucket of my Kioti CK30 . My thoughts are that the weight of the FEL arms, bucket and drill will be sufficient to force the bit into the ground (clay and fist size rocks) The hydraulic pump is good for 12 GPM at rated engine rpm's and the hydraulic motor will use less than this. Since the drill motor is working with some flow resistance I assume that I will also have a little down pressure available from the FEL rams. I'd like to hear of any experience others have had with such an arrangement. BTW...the hydraulic system is evidentally open center on this machine but I just got it last week so I don';t know all the technical details yet.

Interesting idea. It sounds like the pump has sufficient flow to run a smaller hydraulic power auger...does it have sufficient pressure (pressure = torque). Also, running a hydraulic motor will generate a lot more heat than running hydraulic cylinders...does the CK30 have enough hydraulic reservior to provide the necessary cooling, or does it have some sort of hydraulic cooler built in? I've seen comments about the possibility of damaging your tractor's hydraulic system by running hydraulic motors from it (vs hydraulic cylinders). I don't know what the circumstances were though in cases where folks saw some sort of damage...maybe someone with experience at this will post?

If you're looking for a hyraulic power auger to buy, you might want to check www.power-trac.com. They have a pretty rugged PHD that is hydraulic, and at good prices compared to other mfg's....you'd have to adapt it to hang from your bucket, that that shouldn't be too difficult.

I have done this many times with a skidsteer and a hydro. PHD. It works well. You can put a significant amount of the weight of the machine behind the bit and it really helps.

However, your tractor may be marginal hp for the job. I see that the pump is rated to 12 gpm but can you really get that much at the remote outputs?
The reason I bring this up is that one of the skidsteer loaders I have used with a PHD was a 40 hp mustang. I had to be gentle with this one otherwise you can stall the engine. Just not enough horses to turn the digger and apply pressure with the loader.

My advice would be to rent a hydro post hole digger for a skidsteer and try it out before you buy. They are expensive but cheap to rent. This assumes that your loader is compatible with a skidsteer type attachement.

iI just installed a PHD on the left side of my FEL bucket. It was a unit designed to be used with a Skid Steer but the back plate was gone. I just bolted the mounting bracket right to the side of my FEL bucket and it works great. I drill 6 ~ 9" holes in GA red clay for my new round bale hay shed I had no problem controling the bit and it put the bit all the way down in no time....

Great tool...

Charles

Used my L5030 to turn the auger.
