I just had a thought and don't have my owners manual handy so thought I'd ask you. Is there anyway I could slow the speed of the hydraulics and increase the power??? I don't seem to have power to lift a full bucket of dirt from the pile without first backing up. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif I also seem to have the same problem with my 47 BH. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif But when I use the FEL or BH without a load the controls are really fast. This is a JD4210 with a 420FEL and 47BH

You may need to adjust, or have dealer adjust your pressure relief valve …

If you have access to a hydraulic pressure gauge check it… check your specs, most loader will easily pick the rear wheels off the ground with the loader, and all back hoes should be able to drag the tractor around. KennyV.

Thats what I thought. It does pull the tractor backwards a little with the BH but not very much or when I want it to. As for lifting the rear wheels not a chance. But that could be because I have the BH on.

Are you trying to pick up a full bucket driven into the bottom of the pile? I don't think these tractors are designed to do that. Mine certainly won't (Kubota B2910). From the top...even the middle...it'll usually pick it up, sometimes I have to curl the bucket and if I'm too low in the pile I'll have to back up a bit. From the bottom of the pile you could be trying to lift several tons of material and that's WAY beyond the capabilities of my Kubota. Not sure what the loader lift capacity is on your JD, but I doubt if it's more than a ton.

Now, if it can't lift a full bucket full of material from the top of a pile, then I agree with the other posters that your relief valve probably needs adjusting.

As to your backhoe, how wide is the backhoe bucket and what type of soil are you digging into? When my backhoe (Woods 7500) bucket (16") is driven in too deep it'll usually stall the hoe and start pulling the tractor. Does yours do that? If the bucket just stalls without trying to toss the tractor around, then perhaps it is a relief valve issue.

With the loaders we have on these CUTs it's usually necessary to finesse the tractor and loader back and forth a little to fill the bucket and lift it. If you go into a pile with the cutting edge angled down, move in and start rolling back as you go, you can usually get a good full bucket.
I agree that going to the bottom of the pile and expecting it to raise everything on top is unrealistic. You back a little, grabbing what dirt you can and then go in for more.
It just takes a little practice and you'll be getting good full loads in no time.
As for the BH, if it won't lift the rear of the tractor, something isn't right. You should be able to angle the boom down, and then the dipper putting the bucket bottom, with the teeth looking at you, and then use the boom to raise it up. It's possible that the relief valve is set too low.

Do you run your rpms up when trying to lift?

Thanks for all the replys. I do beleive its the relief valve. The BH will not move the tractor backwards or pick up the rear of the CUT. I tried to push a 1 inch tree out of the way and it just stopped the BH. It did dig it up.

As for the FEL it has plenty of power to lift a full load but I can't go into the pile and curl and lift. It will curl but than have to back out and than lift. Our little JD 655 13 horse could do it no problem.
