I have a 3235, purchased new in 2004, with 123 hours on it. The last 2 times mowing it seemed that the power steering hesitated slightly when turning fast (felt like a slipping belt on a car), Today I noticed the deck was sluggish in raising and wouldn't raise at all when idling until I increased the throttle. I checked the hydro oil level and it was on the ADD mark. Would this be low enough to cause a problem? I changed the filter at 100 hours, using the recommended Cub Cadet filter and added oil to make up what was lost (apparently not qiuite enough).
It doesn't seem to have any problem driving the tractor forward and backward.

From the filter being recently changed and the fluid level being low, it is possible some air got into the hydraulic system and is in the steering and deck lifting lines and cylinders. If you top the fluid off and cycle the deck and steering to the fullest of their extent a couple dozen or so times, the problem should be cleared up. Be patient, sometimes it takes a while if a lot of air gets in the lines.

Bob, have you ever noticed that before? It almost sounds to me that you just need to throttle up a bit. The charge pump in the transaxle isnt supplying enough hyd pressure causing the cylinders to stall.

Fordlords, I'll give that a try to see if hopefully it cures the problem.
Joel, I used to be able to raise the deck at an idle and I was mowing at full throttle when I noticed the power steering lag. It's been 23 hours since I changed the filter but maybe it took that long for the air to circulate.

If you topped off your resivoir before running the machine it will lower down after it runs and refills the filter.

I did run it to fill the filter but the tractor was cold when I checked it and I didn't know how much the oil level would raise when hot. Apparently it didn't raise as much as I allowed.

Bob, My 7275 does the same thing every once in awhile. But it has 2600 hours on it now and I just figure it is old age. I'd be interested to hear what you find out about it. If it is still on warranty. I'd bring it in for service to see what is wrong.

Bob,
I have the 5254 and have noticed the same with my tractor this year. Last year the deck would raise with the throttle at idle, not this year. Noticed the same symptoms with the steering as you have described.

Not worried about either problem, just have to idle up a little.

To me that indicates a drop in hydraulic pressure. Time will tell I guess. So far, no problems with the forward/backward drive.
