Hydraulic pump ---> Kaput

Recently brought my hydraulic pump in for repair. It's from my IH tractor ( diesel /purchased new in 1980 /Model 284 )

"Unrepairable" After much searching,the mechanic said he found one ._----->$1397 plus S&H. Yikes !!!!!!!!!!!!

What firm bought out International Harvester ? I'll start there . Then Junk tractors.

Any thoughts?

See your CaseIH dealer. Case bought IH (actually Tenneco I believe) Fiat now own CaseIH or CNH as it's called know. I don't know if a pump is available or not. You can go to Messick and look up the tractor in parts and see if they have one and what it costs. Good luck.

I do have to say the price of OEM replacement parts has went through the roof as of late. Had to buy a rocker switch for my Kubota (had to get the ORM switch because it's the only one that will fit in the pre cutout in the headliner and even with my employee discount it was 70 bucks. I almost crapped.

Bates has a used one for $400, but for tractors with serial number under 002974. 1059701C92U Hyd. Pump, 284 But, different pumps are used on 284's with, and without power steering.

Here's the link to the Case/IH online parts store. international tractor Case IH | MyCNHi US Store Link is to the 284 hydraulics section. Ought to be able to figure out which one you need. Use the OEM part number to search. I usually get the best results using Google.

I had a 1991 IH I forget model no but after 20 yrs. the hydraulic pump went and dealer said they no longer make them but found one for me some place for $1,900. So I started looking on eBay going by pictures and measurements. Eventually I found a no. of look alikes and ended up buying one that said was a Kubota replacement for $60 from China or some place that turned out to be a perfect fit. There were also a no. of other ones I'm sure would have fit for other model tractors.

If you have the old pump start by measuring the mounting flange pilot diameter, shaft diameter and number of splines if spline shaft and direction of rotation. You will also need to know approximate displacement from this information you should be able to source a pump that will mount in the same location. Port size and location may or may not be the same but suspect you should be able to find something close.
