Just went to the NH dealer. The parts are $225.00. I think I'll at least TRY to find them at home before I dump that much cash on 2 little parts that easily fit in the palm of your hand. Ouch!

That's where they make the big bucks. It s the exact reason why I like to study thing a bit before I jump in to it to avoid the unnecessary expense. I put enough effort to take things off and put back how I found them while diagnosing something. Those parts are small and hard to find specially if you're working on the grass or even crushed rock. I alway use small magnetic trays to collect small parts as I disassemble things. I hope you'll be able to find the little buggers.

I work maintenance for the Sheriff's department & we have sirens we take apart when they die or are involved in an accident. The magnets are so powerful you can hardly pull them off of a piece of steel. I imagine if I roll one of them around on the ground near where I think I lost the parts I'll pick them up. It's crushed rock im working on. I was so careful to not loose the parts but I guess even with the precautions I took I still lost them. The poppet is what's so expensive. It's $145.00 alone. If the magnet trick doesn't work I'll go get Dad's metal detector!

Even with my little magnetic tray I manged to lose a detent ball in the gravel. I looked ad and looked and got really frustrated. It took me 15 minutes to find it and it was just right in front of me:(:D

good luck

Im waiting on a gasket from NH...should be here Tuesday so hopefully that will be the day I get to put it all back together. I had gone to my parents place and picked up Dad's metal detector. I went out to the tractor and got ready to pull it out & go to work with the metal detector. I thought before I got too busy I'd look through the buckets of old oil and see if it dropped down in there. As it turns out it did.

...... I wouldnt have plugged it with my thumb but the fluid wasnt coming out fast at all. Thanks for the tip!

The advice was good but there is a difference between a pin hole on a pipe/ hose under pressure where it shoots out few oz of hyd @ 1500-2000 psi and what you did. An open ended pump discharge will not cause pressure anywhere close to operating pressure. The design nature of Positive displacement pump and flow restriction in the form of relief valve/spring is cause of high pressure developed. Skin puncture was not a huge risk in your situation.

JC,

It's a slippery slope guys. How do you want to train yourself and others (reading the thread) about working with active hydraulics. What if you are putting a finger over a port that should be high pressure but for some reason isn't? What it it "burps"? Does the person have any open skin from a cut or abrasion? When I worked for Exxon we were warned about even getting diesel fuel on bare skin due to bacteria, which may have been overkill. In reality, everything we touch with our skin gets into our bloodstream to some extent.

"I hear ya Jack, but I know what I'm doing". ;)
