Sounds like you need to relieve the pressure behind the male connector (fitting) so the tip will compress and allow the mating to occur.

Some hit the tip with a hammer and a rag covering the tip so the squirt of oil doesn't hit them.. but oil will come out.

Some turn off the fitting enough so the oil will run out, thus relieving the pressure.

Waite's Tools make a tool specifically for that purpose. You insert the quick coupler, turn the knob and it burbs out a bit of fluid releasing the pressure.
