I have a L3010 HST. that developed a hydraulic leak at the site glass. I keep my tractor in the shop and have to leave a drip pan under it to keep all the oil off the floor and have had to dump it several times as it gets full. It has had this leak for about 8 months. When i look at the site glass it always shows about 7/8 full but i do not see how this can be if I have had to dump a drip pan several times.

Anyway, my questiion is can i fix this myself or does it have to go to the shop? I was thinking I could maybe drive the Azz end up on some ramps and unscrew it or pry it out (however it is in there) Also if I raise the FEL will it transfer more fluid to the lines from the resevoir so I can do this?

Am I reaming or is this possible? I don't want to try it and find out it has to go to the dealer and Im stuck with a no go Tractor.

anyone??

Thanks in advance

When purchasing it ask the dealer, the rear in the air is a good start to not have to drain all the oil out.

I had the same problem with my L-4400. I fixed it myself. Order 2 new ones, so you have a spare. Park the tractor downhill, lock it down so it will not move. The screw the old one out & install the new one.

Mind cracked between the threads & the gasket face. It broke while I was removing it. I grabbed it with some pliers & backed it out.

Oh, by the way, I put the front wheels in a ditch so the rear was "almost pointing to the sky". That way I did not lose any fluid & I still was safely standing "up top". As always, be safe.

I think the sight glass was under $20 including freight.

The L3010 site glass was glued in so to speak. Not screwed in like the L4400.
See the file attachment on how to fix that. The Loctite brand sealant could be purchased at an automotive parts store.
The site glass is part number 31301-14230.

I have an L4400 too and it looks like glue was used to put it in, but I'm glad to hear that it screws in as well.

Sight windows are a pet peeve of mine. Just another place to leak, poor indicator of fluid level, etc, etc,. Would much prefer a dispstick.

In any case, I'm glad to hear that it isn't too hard to replace. I wonder if the ones that are glued in only (no threads) will be hard to get out as one piece?
