Hydraulic tank cap damaged by seat

/ Hydraulic tank cap damaged by seat #11
I can put my hands under the rear edge of my canopy and push up. When I do, I can feel about an inch and a half of play up and down. Took me a while to figure out where. I removed the center covers and looked at that rod that runs from the top-center joint forward to the front mounting point above the treadle area. That rod has heim joints on both ends and grease fittings. The forward end heim joint on mine is wallowed out. That provides for a lot of slop. I need to replace it. Will as soon as I get use of my left hand back in a month. Broke a finger and it's pinned for 5 weeks.

It is always best to fix the problem and not just the symptoms. Great to hear you found the problem and it is an easy fix. Good luck with your injury.

When my 1850 broke in half it also took out the oil cap. Outside of that mine misses even when twisting heavily. It could be the oil filler throat is welded too high

Moss, sorry about your hand. Thanks for the tip

Don't feel bad for my hand. It's just one finger bone in my left index finger with 3 pins. Doesn't even hurt. I'm left handed, but right-eye dominate. I'm fortunate that I'm mostly ambidextrous. :D

I checked mine and there is some movement in that joint. About and an eight of an inch.

I don't think 1/8" is bad enough to change. Might have to keep looking for something else loose.

So, even if those center pivot points are greased regularly, they will still wear and the center of the PT will sag? I do not see how that can happen if there is new grease being put in there every 8 hours.

One and most importantly, it seems like they last a real long time, but eventually everything wears. I haven't had mine apart however it looks like the grease fitting allows grease to go between the bolt (pin) and the ID of the ball socket. It does not appear to grease the ball socket. Again I haven't looked at great detail as mine only has 25 hours. Has anyone seen grease come out between the ball and socket? I spray all the ball-sockets with open chain lube.

A lot of this movement can often be traced to the front joint of the upper arm (under the center plate).
