Nice job Paul!

One thing I'd like to comment on,
Don't know how much force the tumb puts out, but when you use bushed on the end of the cilinder, the pin can bend.

Really enjoyed the video... even captured the attention of my 79 year old Mom who is visiting and watched all of part 2.

She grew up on a small family Dairy Farm with lots of stories of how they would adapt things to solve problems.

Do have a general question.

Do you ever use acorn nuts? The reason I ask is back in the day when I worked in a fab shop we had several projects that specified acorn nuts... just never really see them used anymore.

I think the reason was to protect the threads, reduce sharp edges and we would have to also add a dab of grease to the larger ones for ease of disassembly later.

We would also have projects that required nylon locking nuts.

Great project as always!

Nice Job, Paul.
If I were ME, I would take off that 500.00 switch that doesn't even look nice, and I would use that left over piece of aluminum stock you have sitting on the mill.
I would shape the top as a ball or egg shape (something that will fit your hand nice) then below that build in another side mounted spring loaded rocker switch, taper it down nice with blind set screws unlike that ugly factory bowling pin head one you have on there now with the lugs sticking out of the side. Sorry, But I know it's not your design so it's not directed at you.

I would make that custom fel shifter one piece out of that aluminum block to look like a million bucks. I would also polish that one like you did on the aluminum on your bikes. Your hand from fel use will keep it polished and will age nice. Then I would bring the one back to the dealer and get my close to five hundred bucks back or store credit. Or even for another bucket for the backhoe Quick con. For that price.

Also I think you you look around you might be able to get a shorter in depth /smaller rocker switch.
I like your design with the switch for the thumb, its in a nice spot and looks good too. I think it's better then my factory foot pedal.

Well God Bless her heart! Please tell her I'm honoured to know she watched it. Tell her I said hi :cool2:

The last time I used acorn nuts was on the pedal cars I was restoring. They aren't used much anymore and when you do see them they are rusty but I have kits of them for my restorations. I do use nylon nuts a lot. I like them as well. I know at Princess Auto you can buy kits of them, that's where I get mine.

Thanks for your kind words. Much appreciated.

Hey never mind bringing the switch back. I'm putting it a safety deposit box.
Awful price for that thing hey
You have some great ideas but I'm not spending anymore time at knobs. The next knob I spend any time doing will be on my street rod build if I ever get to starting it.

You are right about the size of the knob. It's Hugh. Where ever it was made they must have some pretty big people
