Toplink Hydraulic Top Links

On another thread, hydraulic top links were mentioned and discussed briefly. I don't have one, but now my curiosity is aroused. I'm sure they are very handy, and I would like to hear some comments from owners both positive and negative. Where is the best place to buy one? Are they very diffficult to install? I assume that connecting to the tractor hydraulics is the tricky part. Jump right in and give your comments, opinions, etc.

Assuming you have a rear remote, connect the cylinder to the remote via 2 hoses. Connecting the actual HTL cylinder is no more difficult than taking your existing manual top link off and putting the cylinder on.

Do a little searching here on TBN and you will find that your questions have been answered a hundred or more times. There are many, many posts by people describing their experiences with HTL's. Just doing a search for "rear remotes" or "HTL" or "Hydraulic toplink" will give you enough material to write a book.

I believe that the only negative would be the cost. After that it's all good.

After some research, I concluded that the double-pilot check valve is an option that I did not need. Comparable cylinders without that feature are considerably less expensive. If your own research leads you to the same conclusion, choice and availability increases significantly. I got a Cat2 HTL delivered to my door for $177. Not a cheapie either; 3x12 cylinder, 1.125" bore, 10" extension. The fact that I've experienced no meaningful leakdown in nearly a year now, tends to support the decision to go with an unchecked cylinder. Plus, I still have the opportunity to add a DPCV later on if/when it becomes necessary.

But if you don't already have suitable hydraulic remotes installed on your tractor, they'll likely cost more than the HTL itself. First the remotes, then the HTL. Also, new HTLs don't typically come with hoses and fittings. Factor those into your end price as well.
