Well that bites. So much for that plan. I was really hoping it would work because it was cheap. I guess it is back to the drawing board unless there is another way to use it. Thank you very much for your help and information. Bruce
JJ and Tx Jim, I did what JJ suggested and used my air gun to test out the valve and also color coded the plugs. Red port is marked P so I put air in here assuming that P is for Pressure. Blowing in Red it comes out Orange until you move the handle then it comes out one of the Green or Yellow ports. It will only come out the Blue port on the side if you blow in Green or Yellow and move the handle at the same time to a position that lines up with that those ports, it comes out the Blue on side. I am wondering if this means that the Orange port would be used for Open Center and Blue would be used for Closed Center with the other port not used plugged off. Am I correct in this assumption??
How many ports on the left side of the valve in the picture above?
The one port in the left side middle usually the pass through port.
A pure open center valve will pass pump flow using the OUT port. Cyl flow will also use the OUT port.
A open center with PB with adapter in neutral will pass fluid downstream to another valve.
Using a closed center valve, a Closed Center Plug will screw into the PB port to block the pump flow in neutral. Cyl expended fluid will flow through the OUT port to tank.
A closed center valve will usually not have a relief valve installed.
Please check under the hex screw close by the IN port for any relief valve.
A convertible valve can be used as an open center valve with the OUT port going to tank.
A convertible valve can be used as an open center valve with PB in series with the next valve.
A convertible valve can be used as a closed center valve by plugging the PB port.
Do you know the tank port for sure?
Remove side plastic plugs and show me some close up pictures of the left side ports.
A JD dealer should be able to look up that valve and provide a good description.

As I previously stated I'm not sure of the type of the valve. I never tested a valve with air but as you probably know it can tested with oil. With both levers in neutral if valve is OC oil should exit return when pressure oil is applied to pressure side. I agree your air test indicates valve is OC. I got the valve part number(AW34502) by giving my local JD dealer your whole goods number(BW15798).

Here is some more pictures looking inside the ports. I also removed the various plugs and took pictures inside. The port under the blue plug on left side is shallow. The port between the yellow and green have a spring and relief valve in it. Any questions let me know. Hopefully these help. Unfortunately, there is no longer a JD dealer around that I can go to for information. JD has pulled the dealerships of many of the old small dealers around. Bruce
That is just my luck to have scored a great deal on a valve kit and have it be he wrong type. Never gave it a thought last year when I got it to check that out before I bought it. I guess I will have to come up with a different plan. Thank you for all your help. Bruce
