I have a question for those of you advocating the pto winch, are they power in and out? He needs to have control of his wagon going down hill as well as up.

I plan to be able to stand at the top of the hill and just send the cart down and then walk down and start picking. Once Ive filled the cart, Ill walk up and winch it up. I hope it goes as planned....most of the time Ive got someone there to help, so thats good.

I looked into PTO winches, but they were more expensive and cumbersome. I dont want to have to store another implement yearround.

I bought a milemarker 9k hyd winch, now I just have to figure out how to install it......

well, you already found a solution. But for others interested in this or something similar.

If you have a set of stabilizers or a way to lift the drivewheels off the ground, a simple dually hub or any hub attached to a wheel can be used. You attach the cable to the hub and simply put the tractor in creeper -> forward/reverse to wind/unwind the cable.

THis is common practice on backhoes, etc... for cable pulling and the like.

It can also be done for under $50 if you already have stabilizers.
