Hydraulics "For Dummies"

I'm new to tractors and am trying to get an understanding of how hydraulics work on my tractor and what components I would need to install 2 rear ports on my tractor. I'm fairly machanically inclined and was hoping to tackle the job myself.

The dealer wants about $500 to install them and I was looking to figure out what I need and how to install them.

BTW my tractor is a 2009 Mahindra 5525.

I'm not one of the well versed hydraulics guys here, but, if you do a search for "remotes" or "rear remotes", you'll find enough reading to keep you busy for six months...

I know, I think I've read 'em all... and learned quite a bit along the way.

Actually, if my dealer only wanted $500, I think I'd let him do it!

Is the $500 just labor? Or is that the complete price?

If it's just the labor...how much is the kit from the dealer?

I know nothing about your machine, but the factory kit usually just involve mounting everything, removing some port plugs and then connecting hoses. Basic mechanical skill and tools are required.

That is probably not a bad price, considering that labor @ $45 to $60 per hour for a day.

Looking for "Hydraulics for Dummies with Tractors".

Something picturing the common type of fittings, hoses, pressures.

The Army manual is pretty general. I know I need a 3/8 that will take 4800lbs pressure but I don't know what the ends are etc.

Sorry, but your not really going to find that. The best thing to do is search and read the many posts here in the Hydraulics forum, and download some catalogs for the Parker site to study the various styles of fittings. DHH also also great pictures of fittings on their site as well.

Those ends look like JIC fittings, or possibly ORFS (o-ring face seal).

Why do you need a hose for 4800 psi? Your tractor sure doesn't need that.
