Ford 1320
Hello everyone. I haven稚 been on in a while, but I finally got around to doing some maintenance on my new to me (inherited) ford 1320... yesterday I changed the oil which was blacker than the ace of spades. And I changed the fuel filter (also black, and deteriorating) after which I learned all about how to bleed air from fuel lines!

Pic of fuel filters:

Anyways. My neighbor has a little kubota and he can put his bucket on the ground and lift the front end of his tractor up off the ground. I tried to do this with my bucket, and it won稚 lift my tractor. I知 wondering if my hydraulics are weak or if this is normal?

I haven稚 addressed the hydraulics yet. I知 not sure what to do other than change the filter and maybe add some fluid. I plan on doing it this week or next weekend. Any info or help would greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Here she is running after I learned to bleed air from the fuel lines... probably simple to y誕ll, but I was pretty proud of myself for figuring it out!

Can you lift the front end up if you tilt the bucket down? Might need more space for the cylinders to move.

I’ve tried just pushing with the arms, and I’ve tried laying the bucket on the ground and then rolling it down... neither works.

If the fuel filter looks like that I would change the hyd oil also with the filter. Looks like nobody serviced the tractor for a long time:)

Good point, it is possible that your hydraulic filter and/or strainer is plugged and is causing hydraulic system issues.

Ok, I値l get a new filter and oil this week. Can anyone tell me how to check the hydraulic oil level? I see where the drain is, I see where to fill it up (above the pto?), I see where the filter is, but don稚 know where a dipstick is....

The bucket cylinders typically have regen (search for it here on TBN for more info), which makes them rather weak (but faster) when dumping. Try dumping the bucket so it's vertical before trying to lift the front end with the boom cylinders.

But as others have said, check the relief valve pressures for a definitive answer. Clean fluid on an unknown maintenance history is always a good idea too.

I have tried it revved up..... where do I get this gauge? Tractor supply?

Any local hydraulic place can supply you with gauge and fittings. Around $30.

You can even get them to put a short length of hose between the gauge and quick coupling so you can see it while doing the test.

Disconnect any quick coupling and plug in the gauge.
Run tractor at full rpm and then use control lever to direct hydraulic flow to port where gauge is.
Read immediately and release control lever. It just takes a second or two to get the reading.
