I have a JD 2240 rock shaft raises on its own with control lever only half way back anybody have this problem

Draft control section lever isn't quite in the right spot at a guess. I've struck with a couple of other similar vintage and my JD3130 also played up particularly bad one time it became the last time, I swore never to touch the lever ever again. I can do quite well with lift and position.

Place L/D lever under seat in "D" if not already in that location. If that's not the solution then cam follower(shaded part) is probably not located in RS control linkage correctly. Another possibility is L/D mechanism needs adjusting following the several steps outlined in JD utility tractor tech manual.

Also I have a leak in front of shifter cover running down right side of Bell housing really haven't tried to see where it's coming from yet

Leak you mention sounds typical for leaking frt hyd pump seal drain line(item 18) that leads from hyd reservoir to RH top of trans gearshift cover. Note barb fitting encircled in green

Yes I have tightened that once ran bushhog Sunday leaked fairly bad line looks like been clamped many times will cut off re-clamp thanks for your time and info haven't done adjustments on 3 point yet will let you know results when done thanks again
