I assume this is normal... but my 2320 sounds like it's really being strained when I push down on the hydro pedal, especially in 'high' range. It goes, but makes a lot of noise, even with ear protection. A lot worse when I drop my rear 72" blade to clear snow. Don't get me wrong, it still goes... I'm just concerned about the sound and if I'm doing any harm.

Also, why on earth did JD make the ROPS so darn tall on the 2000 twenty tractors?! They've got to be 25% taller than those on any other machine JD manufactures.

My 2320 has a lot of hydro whine too. My seems to be less, the higher the RPM it is run at. From what I've heard, this is normal. I too agree about the ROPS. I thought mine would fit in the garage without folding it down...wrong. Luckily, I checked before driving in and didn't have to learn the hard way. Enjoy that 2320, I sure do mine.

My guess is that the ROPS was designed to support the larger percentage of small SCUT owners who would use it without a seatbelt or in the folded position.

I have a whiney Hydro too on my 3720 Cab Tractor. It seems to whine the most when It's still somewhat cold in high gear, and in 4WD. It is normal... Like I said mostly in the cold, and in High Gear, and especially when 4WD is engaged.

I dont think any of the high gears on any JD is good for anything
but moveing from place to place. I only use Low to do any work..;)

Chris....:)

I use the High gear all the time when my Granddaughter is on my lap. "Faster Pop Pop, Faster" she is always saying. And at 4 years old, she knows where the high/low lever is located also!

Other than that, I probably use low ear 90% of the time.

I'm just waiting for summer to go out and drag race some mopeds with my 3520 for me high range is useless. Unless I want to increase my seat time (play time) by going and grabbing the mail with the tractor. Only about a hundred yards but it's the only place smooth enough for high range on my e-hydro. Oh and yes the hydro's do make a lot of noise.;) Scott

The higher ROPS is an attempt to keep the tractor from flipping completely over. In other words, if you tip your tractor you need a steeper bank or more momentum to overcome the higher ROPS and get upside down.

Well, that certainly make sense - and seems so obvious now that you have described it. I figured that the angling forward toward the top was to protect the operator more - just don't understand why JD only has this design on the 2000 twenty models. Maybe they'll expand it to others in the coming years.

Where's all the snow gone?! It was 52 degrees in Bristol last night!

Part of the reason for the ROPS design, and height may be slanted towards backhoe use too. Look how high, and wide the ROPS is on a Kubota BX24 for that reason. It can be a pain in the woods, or around low branches though! I once had a large, angled branch that I thought I would clear, lift the front of my BX22 pretty quickly.
