I know this topic has been discussed to death but I wondered if there is any definitive answer to this particular question:

In the owner's manual the maintenance schedule table shows Transmission fluid (Change) as required at the 50 hr. service (page 7-4) but the detail page for replacing transmission fluid and filter (page 7-15) specifically says "However, replace only the filter after initial 50-hour operation."

So, which is it? Sorry my first post begs to be answered with "try the search function" but I have read a bunch of threads already and learned a lot (mainly that there are two distinct camps each with firmly held beliefs,) but am still not sure which of these conflicting statements in the Kioti manual is correct. Thanks in advance!

I only replaced the 2 hydraulic filters. No one can tell you what one is correct except Kioti. My Ventrac does not replace any fluids or filters till 1000 hours

I understood it to change the fluid at 50 hours. And I did. I also understand it to mean at 200 hours you do not need to change the fluid but you do need to change the filters. At 400 hours you need to change fluid and filters again.

The weird thing is and we been thru this before is the Service manual Does say Filters only at 50 hours.

Well it is too late for me, as I changed it out at 50. And quite a bit of "crap" came out with it. I was glad I changed it out. I am getting ready to do the 200 and will just do the filters.

I don't get why my Ventrac is 1000 hours but they do use 40.00 a gallon synthetic oil.

that may be the reason right there

They use Amsoil, might be the way to go in the Kioti. Lets see 40.00x 11 = 440.00$ = Ouch!

Thanks fellas! Yeah, that synthetic is dear isn't it Murph? :drink:

K0ua, I think I might do what you did, especially after hearing there was junk in yours. I would have thought that was what the filters are for but there you go. My dealer is a very straight up guy and he said you can change it at 50 hrs or not, then he suggested I pose the question here. How's that for a King Solomon-like decision!

I reckon it is cheap insurance and, more to the point I suppose, cheap peace of mind that I didn't create grief for myself down the road trying to save a few bucks. If I can't throw a few extra coins at it while it still has that new tractor smell I sure won't want to when it's a beater.

That was my thoughts exactly. Be sure you have a chain wrench to get that "darn" hydraulic filter by the right rear tire off.. That thing is a real bear. Everything else is pretty easy.. Also please remember the engine oil drain plugs thread into an aluminum pan, so re-tighten with care.. Dont forget the 2 final drive plugs by the rear wheels, they are easy to miss. Be sure to get the 2 front axle drains, on some of them the oil comes out pretty slow. On the large main hydraulic drain plug be ready for a "whoosh" of fluid to come out, and I mean fast! I used a large plastic "tote" container as a catch basin, remember you are dealing with a large amount of fluid here. Good luck with it all.
