I would suggest that oil temperatures in an elevator system would be greater than in our tractors. I have measured oil temperatures on many elevators and they range from room temperature to 90 degrees celcius. A busy elevator in a medical building could run at the upper range of that for 12 hours straight.

I agree...if there are gears in the system I see the need for hydraulic oil changes but is that the case for non HST tractors?

Well it sounds like the temps could be about the same. Yes all common tractors I know of use the transmission and rear differential as the "tank". Not all have wet brakes, but all or most modern tractors do.

So on a non HST tractor is the transmission oil separate from the hydraulic oil?

No they are all one and the same..common sump

Also, in addition to the wet brakes, my DK has wet clutch packs for the 4WD and PTO, These are similar to the clutch packs in an auto tranny. These all shed friction material over time.

There are probably other differences from elevators.

My personal choice has been for the two DK series tractors I have owned since 2009 'till now, with a combined 900+ hours between them, (550 of those hours currently on my DK-40se/hst), to ONLY change the hydraulic filters, at specified intervals. These filters aren't doing their job if the fluid is becoming contaminated to the point of allowing debris of any kind back into the hydraulic fluid as it passes through the filters, IMHO, and BTW, my dealer, who has sold and serviced tractors for over 50 years.
I have a set of all filters for an upcoming change, and may decide to do an oil analysis on the hydraulic oil to see what the lab shows is present.
You must decide what to do based on your comfort level.
